Well, there are several ways to go about this.

Then what you should do is go into your Friends page in Facebook and set up a "Mafia Wars" list. Then go to your profile, and mouse over settings until "Privacy Settings" comes up in the drop box. Then click on the "Profile" link. Then change your privacy settings so that the people that are in your "Mafia Wars" list don't see all your personal info.

Now you can add people to your mafia to your hearts content, just make sure you add them to your "Mafia Wars" list. After you have them in your mafia, you can go back and delete them as friends if you want, but doing so will stop you from getting help from them in any jobs you do, and you won't be able to help them or get energy packs, or gifts from them.

Ok, so how do I get people to join my mafia? A quick way to do this is to go here and post an "Add Me" into one of the discussion boards, or be part of the discussions, some people won't respond to "Add Me" posts and will attack you for posting one in their discussion.
